Governance
As a committee or board member it is your responsibility to do the right thing ethically, legally, financially and act in the best interest of your members. There are a lot of websites dedicated to governance so we have included some of them by links within this page. This way you will be able to find the majority of the information you need all within one page. Add this site to your favourites for the most efficient way to access these links.
If you are setting up a new organisation or just looking for some information on associations go to the Consumer Affairs and Fair Trading.
Here is a link to a copy of the Model Rules that you can change to suit your needs.
Finances
The Association Incorporations Act 1964 which has been followed by regulations, bills and directions repeatedly mentions the requirement of correct reporting of the financial position of the organisation. Committee/board members share an equal responsibility of, and common liability for, monitoring the financial health of the organisation. Therefore, it is important for each and every committee/board member to understand financial reports. Contact us if you would like information on how to get financial training for your organisation.
Administration
Good administration is the key to successful governance and financial responsibility. Having good quality systems and processes in place will ensure the information being produced is correct and committee members can be comforted in the knowledge that they understand the current financial situation of the organisation. All systems and processes should be documented which will help to minimise mistakes, maximise efficiency and provide a resource for people to learn and teach to others. Contact us if you would like information on how to get training on procedures and systems for your organisation.
